State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program

The federal government has launched a first-of-its-kind cybersecurity grant program specifically for state, local, and territorial governments across the country.
What Is the SLCGP?
The SLCGP initiative, fueled by the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law), is granting $1 billion over four years (2022-2025) to combat cybersecurity risks that target government-operated information systems. This federal initiative was established to help state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) governments improve their cybersecurity capabilities. The program is part of a broader effort to address the growing threats posed by cyberattacks, especially on public sector systems that manage critical services like utilities, public safety, and education.
Who is Eligible for the Grant?
States, territories, and local governments are eligible to apply for the grants. Each state has the authority and autonomy to administer grant sub-awards to local municipalities, educational institutions independently. Grant Usage
Grant funds can be used to enhance cybersecurity planning and policies, implementing risk-based cybersecurity measures, increasing personnel capacity for managing cyber risks, acquiring and implementing technologies to bolster defenses and enhancing information sharing and incident response.
